Wheeler, William (I120954)

1005 BIRTH: 1602, likely either at Dorking or Guildford, co. Surrey, England, daughter of William Mullins.
MARRIAGE: John Alden, about 1623, at Plymouth.
CHILDREN: Elizabeth, John, Joseph, Priscilla, Jonathan, Sarah, Ruth, Mary, Rebecca, and David.
DEATH: and 1688 at Duxbury. she attended the funeral of Josiah Winslow in 1680, but no primary source exists to confirm.

Priscilla Mullins was born probably near Guildford or Dorking, co. Surrey, England, to William Mullins. She came on the Mayflower to Plymouth in 1620 with her father, brother Joseph, and mother Alice. Her family, herself excepted, died the first winter. She was shortly thereafter, 12 May 1623, married to John Alden, the Mayflower's cooper, who had decided to remain at Plymouth rather than return to England with the ship. They John and Priscilla lived in Plymouth until the late 1630s, when theypmoved north to found the neighboring town of Duxbury.

John and Priscilla would go on to have ten children, most of whom lived to adulthood and married. They have an enormous number of descendants living today.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
American Colonial Figure. One of the charter members of the Plymouth Colony, arriving on the first voyage of the "Mayflower", her marriage to John Alden is the third known marriage in the Plymouth colony. Born in Dorking, Surrey, England, she was a young girl of 16 or 17 at the time of the sailing of the Mayflower in 1620 for America, when she arrived with her parents. When her parents died in the first winter ashore, in early 1621, a hard time when about half of the colony perished, she chose to stay with the Pilgrims even though she had a brother and sister surviving in England.

Between the time of her parents' deaths in 1621 and her marriage to John Alden about 1623, it is not known whom she stayed with or how she survived. John married Priscilla Mullins about 1623, but the exact date has been lost to history. A legend of a rivalry between John Alden and pilgrim Miles Standish for Priscilla Mullins arose, and was first published in the book, "Collection of American Epitaphs and Inscriptions" in 1814, by Timothy Alden. The story was popularized by the poem, "The Courtship of Miles Standish" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1858, however, there is no documentation of such a rivalry to have existed in any of the records of the Plymouth Colony.

Bio by: Kit and Morgan Benson

The Courtship of Myles Standish:
Star of Longfellow's poem, The Courtship of Miles Standish is set against the backdrop of a fierce Indian war and focuses on a love triangle among three Mayflower Pilgrims: Miles Standish, Priscilla Mullens, and John Alden.

Evidence that Hopestill was the daughter of Joseph even though his will doesn't include any daughters is a letter dated 14 Apr 1801 from John Alden (Son of John, Son of Jospeh) states his grandfather had two daughters "married into the family of Snow of Bridgewater." (The other daughter was Elizabeth Alden, wife of Benjamin Snow - 1669) Also Hopestill's son Joseph Snow sold land that had once been owned by Joseph Alden, suggesting Hopestill had acquired the land from her father.

Presidential Child. He was the third child and son of US President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. Named for Mary Lincoln's brother-in-law Dr. William Wallace, he and his younger brother Thomas (Tad) were rambunctious children during the time they lived in Springfield, Illinois, recorded by Abraham's law partner William Herndon for turning their law office upside down, pulling the books off the shelves, while their father appeared oblivious to their behavior. After Abraham Lincoln was elected US President in 1860, the family moved into the White House the following year and it became the children's new playground. In early 1862 he and Tad both became ill. The most likely cause of the illness was typhoid fever, which was usually contracted by consumption of fecally contaminated food or water. Tad managed to recover, but Willie's condition fluctuated from day to day. His condition worsened and he finally succumbed on February 20, 1862 at the age of 11. Both parents were deeply affected by his death. His father did not return to work for three weeks and Tad cried for nearly a month because they were very close. Mary became so distraught that Lincoln feared for her sanity. Dr. Charles Brown, who perfected of the technique of embalming, was called to the White House and prepared the remains. He lay in state in the Green Room which adjoins the East Room where a private service was conducted by the pastor of The Washington New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and he was interred at Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, Washington DC. The Lincolns were so pleased by the preservation achieved by Dr. Brown that he was disinterred twice so that they could again view his remains. After Lincoln's assassination in 1865, his remains were exhumed and were placed on the Presidential funeral train with his father and interred in a temporary tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. In September 1871 when Lincoln's permanent tomb was finished at Oak Ridge Cemetery, he was placed alongside the remains of his father and his brothers Tad and Eddie. (bio by: William Bjornstad)

He was born after 22 May 1627, - not mentioned in the division of cattle on that date - but in the Julian calendar year 1627 which ended 10 months & 2 days later, on March 24, as he is on an Aug 1643 list of men able to bear arms, i.e., aged 16 to 60. See NEHGS Register, Vol. 52, pp. 362 & 363.

Alden, Joseph (I121484)

1020 Blakesley Prouty  Ellsworth, Elizabeth "Betsy" (I11162)

1021 Blasgow Cemetery  Armstrong, Emily (I115454)

Senere
