  My grandfather was Paul Besley Pickering. My mother, Barbara, was a trained genealogist and a number of times lamented to me that she could not follow the line for the biological mother of her father, Paul. She stated that from her personal knowledge Paul was found in a basket on the door step of Alexander Pickering while only a few days old. She further stated that it was common in those early times in Salt Lake City for an unwed mother to present a child to the father to be raised. As such, it would appear that Alexander Pickering was indeed the father and Maggie May Skidmore was not the biological mother. Lewis William Seymour III
